Protection against infection in everyday life, school, KITA, at work, etc. is still an important topic. In addition to the disinfection stands and spitting protection walls, which we have already presented here, we would like to point out personal protective equipment.
This includes for example the certified Surgical protective mask or the FFP 2 half mask. The former is a disposable product and may also be used in hospitals, in stationary as well as mobile nursing and geriatric care and in medical practices, which of course also applies to the FFP 2 (KN95) masks, whereby only these offer more extensive protection against self-infection with viruses.
To reduce droplet infections caused by one's own coughing, sneezing, spitting in the (exhaled) air, the uncertified Mouth-Nose Mask as well as face and auxiliary masks are also used. These are probably the most frequently used masks in everyday life, when you go shopping at the supermarket or other shops, the post office, etc. These masks are also a must in public transport, railways and in the future also in airplanes. Some of them are reusable and washable, others have to be disposed of safely after each use or if the material gets soaked, so that you have to have a corresponding supply at home.
There are different materials used for the fabric mouth-nose masks. From pure cotton to blends of cotton and synthetic fibre material to masks made of pure synthetic fibres, almost anything is possible. Whichever material gives you the best "skin feeling", you have to try it out. Whether you then prefer to use (elastic) ear loops, head loops or tapes to tie them together is a question of personal taste. Usually there is also a (wire) reinforcement incorporated as a noseband, which provides a better hold and is adjustable. It is important that the mask fits well, covers mouth and nose completely and does not restrict breathing. Sometimes there are different sizes for adults and children, whereby the children's sizes often fit on small/narrow adult faces, like our mouth and nose mask made of cotton and polyester.
The protective effect of all masks can only be guaranteed by correct use, observance of the product instructions, proper decontamination in the case of reusable products or, finally, disposal.
